Unwavering support: for a nation, but not for peace

And so it begins... another process, another waste of effort, another US administration that cannot do anything else but sway to Israel's darkest desires without one thought for the ordinary Palestinian.

As the BBC reports (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11155313)

US President Barack Obama has condemned the "senseless slaughter" of four Israeli settlers

Now, don't get me wrong. Senseless slaughter it was. Senseless in that Hamas, no doubt timing this 'perfectly' wish to see the Palestinian Authority fail as much as the Israeli right, should start to learn that the PA's steps towards peace aid them too. Terrorism and violence are not the ways to peace.

Of course, legitimised terrorism is not either. Every day, more and more houses are being demolished in East Jerusalem, but Obama does not speak of the senseless slaughter and destruction of Israeli occupation. Instead, he makes things very clear:

"The United States is going to be unwavering in its support of Israel's security."

The US has committed itself to protecting Israeli society. Those killed were Israeli settlers. These are not innocent members of society, but active participants in one of the gravest Human Rights abuses the world has ever witnessed. The US, and Obama today in his speech, fail to make this distinction. Those killed in that car were active participants in a military regime.

They would be, in past times, Saddam Hussein's militia, and "Hamas and everyone else who is taking credit for these heinous crimes," according to Obama, would have been the Coalition forces emancipating the region.

But no, this isn't Iraq. This is Israel. Suddenly, the West must provide unwavering support to a regime that continues to ignore every international law, convention and moral commitment for justice.

Obama. Wake up. The Israeli right only survive because people like you support them.

The Land of the Free must stop supporting Israel. And all of this, before the talks between Israel and the Palestinians have even begun...
